PRESIDENT'S DAY
25th September 2022
On Sunday, Joan Barton held her President's Day at Lockswood. The weather was kind, dry, and a lovely temperature for bowling.
The afternoon began with a "Spider" which was won by Ann Bryant, followed by a friendly game of bowls played in a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere with lots of friendly banter.
After the game members all enjoyed a lovely meal, prepared by our hard working catering staff.

Joan's charity for this event was The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance and Joan was pleased to welcome Judith a representative from the charity to speak to us about the work of the Air Ambulance which is all run by monies raised by the Charity.
Joan was especially pleased to be able to present Judith with a check for £300 from the proceeds of the day to help towards this great service which is there for us all.

A very big "Thank You" to the catering staff, Walter Metcalf, Gill Grindey, Wendy Nunn, Pat Newman and Julie Barker as well as Mike Beck who ran the Raffle and poured the wine!
Everyone had a lovely afternoon and thanks go all those members who gave their support on the day and contributed to the money raised.

Ladies' End of Season Round-Up
The Ladies' League Season for 2022 is now complete.
For the first time Lockswood had a team in the Rinks League which this year consisted of only one league, and a team in the Triples "B" League.

Rinks League

2022 proved to be a difficult season due to injuries and holiday commitments which meant it was often difficult to field a full team. It was very frustrating for the Lady Captain who struggled to get enough players and for one match we had to play short. Consequently, the ladies could not sustain stability and consistency in the teams. Unfortunately, therefore, we finished at the bottom of this league with just sixteen and a half points.
Congratulations to Meon Valley who won this league.

Triples League

The Ladies Triples Team faired better, and it was lovely for the teams to have included some newer ladies to the league. The team finished in fifth place out of seven with seventeen points.
Congratulations to Waterside who won the league.

Looking Forward

Lockswood Ladies have the most female playing members in the Southampton and District leagues, so it is disappointing that we have struggled to fill a team at times this year. It would be nice if next season more ladies signed up to play. By playing in the league it is a way to experience playing on grass, to learn about the other clubs and how the leagues work, as well as making new friends across the district. Playing in different games and with different people can help to improve your own game too. So, if you would like learn more about playing in the league to gain more experience, look out for any dates of ladies' meetings to find out and meet those who having been playing in the leagues in the past. The ladies will be happy to help and you will be very welcome.

We would like to get more players involved, especially any new members so, please think about giving next year's Lady Captain your support.

Hopefully, next season we can be top of the Leagues!
