Gosport and Fareham Leagues.

The Gosport and Fareham Leagues are also complete for the 2022 Season.

Division 1. -

The Red and Gold Teams both played in this division. They had a mixed season with the Golds finishing in sixth place on 82 points ensuring that they stay up in this division next season.  Unfortunately, the Red Team just missed out staying up and finished eighth on 80 points. They will be playing in Division 2 next year.

Division 2. -

The Green Team played in Division 2 this season and struggled at times to field a full team! This was frustrating for the Captain and consequently contributed to the team finishing at the bottom of the League.  This also means they will be relegated next year and will play in Division 3.

Southampton Women's Bowling Leagues

The Rinks League. -

The ladies have had a difficult year with trying to field consistent teams .  Players have not always been available to play and matches have have been postponed due to the exceptionally hot weather.  These issues have contributed towards poorer results and the girls have had to work hard to  stay off the bottom of the League Table.  There is still one more match to play before the final league positions are completed.

The Triples League. -

The Lockswood Triples Team have faired slightly better and have experienced fewer issues, apart

from postponed matches due to heat.  This league will be late in completing, as their final match

will take place at home on the 8th September.

The Bowls Hampshire Dolly Gore Competition was held at Banister Park last Friday.  This is an annual competition held at the end of the season between teams from the North, South, East and West of the County.  Lockswood ladies put a Rinks team forward, Jackie Barnes, Maxeen Fletcher, Sue Coates and Sylvia Switzer, to play for the South.

During the day, the South play against one other Area Team and then a different Area Team in the afternoon.  All shots are totalled for the finishing positions.

Unfortunately, the South was not quite so successful this year, finishing in fourth position.

Teams from the North of the County were the winners.  Congratulations to them and well done to all the teams that took part.

Hottest Finals Days Ever at Lockswood!

Final's Weekend 2022 was held at Lockswood on Saturday 13th  and Sunday 14th August.

The weather was unprecedented with temperatures in the thirties!  For this reason the format was changed this year with matches being held (as for the Commonwealth Games) at 8.30am and 4pm or 5.30pm.  This meant that players and supporters had to be up early or visit later in the day in order to catch the action.

Saturday began with the Willcocks Cup, a singles match between Neil and Maxeen Fletcher.  Family rivalry was good hearted and was followed intently by the spectators for any signs of a falling out!  Luckily, this did not happen and Neil came through to take the cup.

Taking place at the same time was the Jubilee Triples  Dilys Lillywhite, Adrian Dadd and Don Moore versus Sue Coates, Alan Jackson and Stewart McCabe.  After a very close match, Stewart's team took the title.

President's Cup 2022.jpg

At 5.30pm, Neil was back to take on John Beaumont for the President's Cup.

Neil had an excellent day.

After another  good match he took the President's Cup , two wins in a day!

Congratulations Neil.

President's Cup 2 2022.jpg

Sunday began early and marginally cooler, with the Ladies' and Men's Singles matches.

The Ladies' Singles was between Maxeen Fletcher and Carol Windust.  Maxeen began very well and made it difficult for Carol to get anywhere near the jack, making her play a variety of shots to hang in the game.  However, at 16 - 3  down Carol began to pull back winning more ends and managing to claw  her way back to make the score 18 -14 to Maxeen.  Despite Carol's best efforts, it was not to be her day and Maxeen came through to win 21 - 15!.  It was a very enjoyable match to watch and play in. This was the competition that Maxeen had always wanted to win and she is now the Ladies' Champion.  Well done Maxeen a well deserved winner!

The Men's Pairs was contested by Neil Fletcher and Alan Jackson. It was a third final for Neil and  second for Alan. This match was also quite close  but,  this time the winner was Alan who won by 21 shots to 14 and is now the Men's Singles Champion for 2022! Congratulations Alan.

4 o'clock  saw the start of the Men's Pairs, Walter Metcalfe and Alan Jackson versus Nigel Harvey and Don Moore. This was also a good game  to watch and was finally won by Walter and Alan.

The match of the weekend however, was the Ladies' Pairs.  Vi Oliver and Maxeen Fletcher played Sue Coates and Sylvia Switzer. This match was an EPIC!

It began at 5.30pm and was extremely close, so close, that at around 8.30pm the match was still being played!  Eventually, it became too dark to see and the match had to be carried over  night to be continued on Monday morning!  At this point Sue and Sylvia were 21 - 20 down.

At 8.30 am on Monday the match was resumed and after twenty ends the score was 23 - 23!

So, it eventually came down to the last end.  Sue and Sylvia were holding three shots and Maxeen, with one wood left, needed to get one shot to win.  After considering her options at the head, she was unable to find a path to the jack.  This meant that Sylvia and Sue took the match 26 - 23 after four hours and ten minutes of play!  The match was a credit to our ladies' bowling, and despite Maxeen and Vi losing, they were all winners in this match.  Well done ladies! A great game to watch.

DON'T THEY LOOK SMART?

Shed 2.jpg
Bench 1.jpg

What a great job Bob and his willing team of helpers has done!

The Maintenance Shed, Sherbourne and all the benches around the green have been given new coats of paint.

Green Shed.jpg

It has been a hot job for the painters,

but they have overcome the heat

by working at cooler times during the day, to get the job done.

Despite all the hot weather the gardens still look immaculate.

The newly painted sheds and benches enhance the gardens even more.

I'm sure everyone will agree when they see them.

A big "Thank You" to Bob Prince and all those who worked hard in the heatwave to get the sheds and furniture painted.

They really do look very smart!

Our gardens will continue to receive high praise from members and visitors to the club.
