LADY CAPTAIN'S DAY 2022

P1010297.JPG

A warm sunny day accompanied by a cooling, but strong breeze, was the setting on Sunday for our Lady Captain's Day. The day began with a "Spider" which was won by Coleen Money and  was followed by a Triples Game of twelve ends.  However, not all the ends were standard bowls practice and for two ends competitors were required to bowl with their non - dominant hand. The "jack"  was removed from the rink, after it's position being marked, and players had to bowl to a chalk mark, and finally, the ladies had to play with their opposite number's woods.  While this was all strictly unorthodox, it made for a lot of frivolity and fun, which may partly have been because of the Pimms being sipped during the course of the game.

The match was followed by a meal, prepared by the men and was overseen by Gill Grindey and Margaret Gorman, our stalwart ladies who have organised and catered for all the events throughout the season.  Margaret and Gill were thanked and presented with gifts by Sue Coates our Lady Captain, in appreciation for all their hardwork as well as Muriel Goodridge for her support on many occasions, during the season.

Janet Haynes, our Lady Vice - Captain was also presented with a gift for all her help and support throughout the year and we all wish her well for next year when she will take over as the new Lady Captain.

The men waited on the ladies for the course of the meal, which was also appreciated. Many thanks to the team of Bob Prince, who also made the Pimms, Mike Walsh, Neil Fletcher, Stewart McCabe, Alistair Ford, Pete Wilkinson and Peter Coates.

Sue was presented with a gift on behalf of all the ladies in appreciation for her work as Lady Captain and Gwen, our Ladies' Secretary,  was also presented with a gift  for all her hardwork and organisation in the first year of her membership. We thank you both very much.

The day included a raffle, bran tub, and quizzes and all proceeds from the day went towards Sue's Asthma Charity.

The day was a very relaxed one and thoroughly enjoyed by all those who took part. There was much laughter and friendship and we hope it was a day which Sue will keep as a memory of her time as Lockswood Ladies' Captain.

Thanks Sue we all had a lovely day!

CASTLE CUP 2022

The Annual Castle Cup Competition between Lockswood and Portchester, took place on Sunday 12th July.  It was Lockswood's turn to host the event this year. Portchester won the cup at home last year, so Lockswood were hoping to win it back.  Unfortunately, after very close competition Portchester retained the trophy for another year.

Many thanks to all those players who took part and a special thanks to the Ladies in the kitchen for providing lunch on the day.
