Autumn Triples 2018

After 13 competitive weeks the Triples title was still undecided as we went into the final matches on Monday. In the end Cuban Sunset were crowned the Champions with Salty Dog piping Margarita to the runner-up spot. After today’s matches Bob Prince presented each of the winning squad of Stewart McCabe, Ann Martin, Alan Jackson, Janet Haynes, Malcolm Fenna and Steve Kearney with their £10 prize money.

This was my first experience of running the Triples Competition and I must thank a few people who helped me on the way. First our Web-Master John Windust who not only updated the scores on the web-site each week but he provided me with the brilliant bit of software that worked out all the fixtures and rink allocations as well as updating the league table. Secondly, we all owe a debt of gratitude to Alan Jackson and Bob Prince who so masterly set –up the rinks each week with occasional hinderance from Rob White, Stewart McCabe and Charlie Hewitt. Their words not mine. Lastly the 14 Captains who volunteered to organise the teams and ensure that the fixtures were fulfilled each week. Thank you all.

Thoughts now turn to the Spring Triples and with that in mind I need some themes for naming the teams so let me know your ideas. Also, a couple of additional rules have been suggested such as a 5 shot penalty against any team unable to field a team from their own squad. Again any ideas are welcomed.

I almost forgot did you notice a rain free 13 weeks!

important messages from the club captain

Green Closure

Subject to weather conditions, the green will be closed to all bowlers, between Monday 3rd December and Friday 7th December, to accommodate the installation of the new pathway around the green. Any changes will be notified ASAP.

Decoration Of Changing Rooms

I intend to take advantage of the green closure to decorate the Ladies and Gents changing rooms. If there is anyone who could assist me during the week, it would be greatly appreciated. Please ring or email me if you can help.

Annual Dinner dance & presentation 2018

The Dinner Dance was again held at the Sarisbury Social Club and as always was very well attended with over 100 Members and guests, present.

The venue was very seasonal and the Christmas decorations looked great.

President Bob Prince and his wife Christine, were joined by  their Guests Of Honour, life long  friends, John and Jacky Handscomb.

As usual the meal was exceptional and the wine and conversation flowed freely.

After dinner, Adrian Dadd compered the award ceremony with President Bob and friend John, presenting the trophies.

The award ceremony and raffle complete, attention was focussed on the dance floor, as Roger Wellstead and the band, got the party started. Strictly has a lot to answer for, as couples, waltzed, foxtrotted and jived around the dance floor and we even had our own judges........

All too quickly the night was over and people began to wend their way home, reflecting on what had been another fantastic night.

A huge thank you to everyone who worked so hard to make it a truly memorable evening.

autumn triples goes to the wire

Following a couple of surprise results, the competition winners will be decided in the final round. Leaders, Cuban Sunset, were beaten by John Collins and second placed Sidecar went down to bottom team, Gin Fizz.

There are now only two possible winners, Cuban Sunset remain in top position with 18 points and Margarita go into second place with 16 points.

If Cuban Sunset are beaten in the final round and Margarita, win, they will both be level on points, but Margarita will have to turn around a 21 shot difference, if they are to take the title.

Normally the proceeds of the day, plus a spider , would go to the Presidents Charity, however, yesterday's Spider went instead to  Visually Impaired Bowls England (VIBE) towards their fundraising for the 2021 World Championships in Gold Coast Australia. Thanks to all who participated, £21 was donated to the President's Charity and £48 to VIBE.
