Ken Marsh  Semi - Final Update

The Semi - Final of the Ken Marsh Trophy was played on Tuesday against Littleton.  Two rinks away and two rinks at home.  It was a closely contested match and Lockswood just missed out on a place in the Final.

The Final is between Littleton and Banister Park on Saturday 28th August.

Congratulations to the Lockswood Men's Team for reaching the Semi - Final, fingers crossed it will be the Final next year.

Lockswood Club Finals Weekend

This weekend  the Lockswood Summer Finals were played over Saturday and Sunday.  Despite the weather forecast predicting wet conditions, we were actually blessed with two warm dry days , making  it very pleasant for the competitors and spectators.  The Final Results can be seen below.

Well done to all the competitors who made it into the Finals.

The Gosport and Fareham fixtures for all of the Lockswood teams are now complete for 2021. This year only half a season was played and although there were points to be won, it was played for this season only, as a "friendly" competition.

The season was not so good for three of our teams this year.

The Reds and Golds in Division One finished in the lower half of the table with the Golds finishing four points above the Reds.

The Greens unfortunately finished in last place. Captains found it difficult this year to get enough players to field their teams, so hopefully next season we will improve.

However, by contrast, the Silvers did extremely well.  They finished in third place with 36 points behind Portchester Silver and Fareham White.

Congratulations to Rod Maxted and his team.

Continuing Progress for Lockswood's Ken Marsh Team.

The Lockswood Men's team in the Ken Marsh Competition continues, with a Quarter Final win against Mayfield Park, 52 - 46.  They are through to the Semi - Final which will take place on Tuesday 24th August versus Littleton. Two rinks away and two rinks at home. Please take the opportunity to support the rinks teams at home.

Ken Marsh Trophy 2021

This is a competition which the Southampton and Districts Men play at the end of their League Season. It is a rinks competition where two rinks play away and two rinks play at home, both at the same time, against one club.

Last night Lockswood played Romsey, home and away in their first round match.

Lockswood won on all their rinks and had an aggregate score of 78 shots to 45.  Lockswood will now play Mayfield Park on Thursday 19th August in the Quarter Final.

Congratulations and Well Done to the whole team!

What Was In The Box?

Answer.......A BEES' NEST!

Bees nest 16_08_21.jpg

Earlier in the year, some members of the club became aware of much bee activity in and around the Bird Box to the left of the back border of the garden.

So, today, John Windust took the Bird Box down and retrieved this bees' nest which was  abandoned.  By leaving them be! we have the chance to see the result  of their labours.

What a lot of hard work by those busy bees!

John replaced the old Bird Box with a brand new one he had made. Thank you John,

Will we get Birds or Bees next year?

Final League Positions for the Men's Leagues.

A pretty good season for the our Men's Leagues on their return to a Summer Season of Bowling.

The Championship ....Finished in third position just behind Brockenhurst, with Eastleigh Rail finishing top.  Unfortunately, Lockswood just missed out on promotion by  1.5 points.  So, hopefully, next year will see them even higher.  Well done lads!

The Combination ....   Had a more mixed season but finished fourth in the top half of the table behind Pirrie Park "A", Meon Valley "A" and BTC.  Good luck for next season boys.

The Combination Triples .... Had a very good season finishing as Runners - Up to Banister Park "C". Next year, you will surely top the Table!

Well done to all our Men's Teams for the 2021 Season!

Congratulations to Sheena Mack from Lockswood and Rosemary Bailey from Fareham, who are the new Bowls Hampshire Ladies' Pairs Champions.  They will be off to compete in the National Finals at Leamington later this month.
Good luck girls!

A Message from Roger

Friday the 13th proved to be lucky for two of our Lockswood Ladies.

Ann Bryant and Carol Windust beat Gill Hurst and Lesley Athersuch from Romsey, 22 - 12 in the Semi - Final of the Championship Pairs, at Waterside.

They will now play Sue Lewis-Parkes and her partner, from Waterside in the Final which will be held on either the 9th or 10th of September at Pirrie Park.

Congratulations to Ann and Carol.

Many thanks from Romsey and Lockswood to Waterside, for the loan of their lovely green.

Congratulations to Kevin Gillingham and his Men's Combination Triples Team.

They finished Runners - up to Banister Park 'C' with a total of 51 points for the season.

The team enjoyed some very good wins throughout the year, congratulations to all members of the team who made this result possible.

   A good job well done!
