Lady Captain's Day

On Sunday 25th July, Eve held her Lady Captain's Day, the first one for two years!

All the ladies wore brightly coloured clothes, the weather was kind, the rain and storm held off and the day was a great success.

The day began with a "Spider", which was won by Carol Windust. There then followed a Fun Spoon Game won by Kay Walsh.

The ladies enjoyed a glass of Pimms to cool off, followed by a lovely meal in the clubhouse.  It was so nice to see so many happy smiling faces and the clubhouse buzzing with activity once again.

Eve, was presented with a shrub and a planter for her garden in thanks for all her hard work over the last two years.

It was a very special afternoon for Eve and she sends her thanks for all the support received on Sunday, which made her day so enjoyable.

The afternoon raised £121.25 for her charity, Naomi House and Jack's Place.

Many thanks to Rod Maxted who helped to organise the Fun Spoon Game and Spider.

The day ran smoothly and many thanks go to Gill Grindey, Wendy Nunn and Margaret Gorman who worked hard to organise and prepare the lovely meal.

Eve's husband Richard and Ron Collins were also on hand to make the Pimms. Muriel Goodridge ran the raffle and Jan Collins officiated on the door.  Many thanks to you all.

A Scorching Day for the
ANNUAL CASTLE CUP.

This year it was Lockswood's turn to visit Portchester to compete for the Castle Cup, which Lockswood have been lucky enough to have kept for two years, due to the Lockdown of 2020.

Summer has been a long time coming and on Sunday 18th July it arrived in style for this Annual Rematch.  Temperatures were extremely high but, bowlers from both clubs were resolute and managed to find various ways to keep themselves hydrated!

Four rinks of Pairs took to the rinks for a timed session from 1pm until 3pm and four Triples Rinks played from 3.15pm until 5.15pm.

It was a very friendly occasion, but unfortunately, although some scores were close, we only managed to win one rink of Pairs and one rink of Triples.  So the castle Cup this year went to Portchester.

League Reports

Ladies' S&D

The Ladies' leagues have been underway for about a month.

The "A" League started a week or two earlier than the "B" League.

The "A" League matches to date, have been very close and for the first three matches Lockswood were pipped at the post by just  two or three shots which unfortunately meant that points were lost.  However, despite a slow start are now beginning to pick up points and are currently in fifth position.

The ladies' "B" League also had a slow start and points were few at the beginning.  Last week saw their first overall win of four points which has lifted them off the bottom.  Well done girls.

Men's S&D

The Championship team have made a steady start to their league season and at the half way stage are sitting in second place with twenty four points behind Eastleigh Rail who are top with 45.

The Combination have had a mixed bag of results and are currently in fifth position at the half way stage.

The Combination Triples are having a very good season and have won most of their matches both home and away.  They are in second position just four and a half points behind Banister Park C. It's looking good for the end of the season.  Well done chaps.

G&F Leagues

The G&F Leagues started later than the other leagues and all teams have played a couple of fixtures.

The Reds had an unfortunate start as their first game was cancelled due to the   weather. Their second match against Crofton Red was touch and go, as the weather was unsettled and the game was accompanied by distant thunder.  Unfortunately, Lockswood lost on all three rinks.  The next game is at home so we should pick up some points.

The Golds have managed to play two games and have picked up 2 points.

They are in a mid - table position at present.

The Greens have played two games, with one loss and one win which gave them ten points and has put them near the top of the league.

The Silvers had a match cancelled as the opposition were unable to field a team, however, they gained twelve points from their next game which puts them tied at the top with Portchester Silver and Bridgemary White.

All G&F Teams please be aware that the league tables shown on the results pages do not necessarily reflect the up to date positions of team as they are only sent through when the G&F Secretary updates them.
