A Worthy Winner
As modesty prevents our Webmaster mentioning this, I have been asked by Eve Aitken our Lady Captain, to post the following........

I would like to congratulate Carol Windust on reaching the Quarter Final of the S&DWBA 4 Wood Singles, having won a very close and exciting game against Sharon Smith from Mayfield 21 - 20.
The next match will be played at Lockswood, where COVID permitting we will be able to show her our support.
Regards,
John.

More Disappointment for Lockswood
On Sunday, Lockswood played County Bowls Club at their ground in Southampton.
They played in the Bowls Hampshire Mixed Top Club Competition consisting of
Men's 4 wood singles. Ladies 4 Wood Singles. Mixed Pairs. Mixed Triples andMixed Rinks. All matches are played at the same time and the winner is decided by the number of rinks won.

Lockswood put in a valiant effort and some matches were closer than others but, we were unfortunately beaten by four rinks to one, with John and Carol Windust winning their pairs match. as it is a knock out competition that is the end of the line for Lockswood.
All matches were played in a good atmosphere and after such wet weather, the day stayed fine.
Thanks to County for their hospitality and we wish them all the best in the next round.
Lockswood will try again next year!

Lockswood Bowling Club Open Day
It was a busy weekend for Lockswood Bowling Club. On Sunday 30th May we had an Open Day as part of a National Bowls England Open Weekend. This was a Bowls England initiative to encourage people of all ages, from all over the country, to promote the sport of bowls.

On the first real Summer Day of the year, Lockswood opened its gates
for people to come in, have a go, to meet members of the club informally, to chat about bowls and everything Lockswood Bowling Club has to offer.

As part of the day we were very lucky to be visited by Paul Robson who is the President of Bowls England, Sarah Pankhurst the local Councillor for Locks Heath, and Steve Watson who is the representative from Bowls England Disability Bowls.

The day was very successful with a steady stream of visitors from 10am until 4pm. It was lovely to see so many people across all ages with several families and children enjoying the day. There were many favourable comments about the club facilities as well as the gardens and grounds.
Fingers crossed we will have some new members soon possibly even some youngsters!

Many thanks to Neil and Maxeen for organising the activities , the Committee Sub -Group for organising the day and to all the members who helped with advice and information given to all our visitors on the day.
